Millions of Americans suffer from gum disease, an infection where inflammation creates periodontal pockets between the gums and teeth. These pockets are one to three millimeters in healthy individuals and four or more millimeters in individuals with gum disease. Dentists measure the pockets to determine the extent of your gum disease. The pockets are an ideal location for plaque to hide and harden into tartar, which will make the pocket larger. It’s impossible to keep the pockets clean with regular brushing and flossing. Without treatment to halt the progression of the disease, an individual can experience severe consequences, including tooth loss.
Our Perio Protect® dentists offer a minimally invasive alternative to root planing and scaling or surgery for advanced gum disease. Dentists typically use Perio Protect along with deep cleanings and patients may still need surgery, depending on the severity of their periodontal disease. Deep cleanings are faster and less painful for patients who use Perio Protect at home. We’re proud to offer this revolutionary treatment to our patients. Call to request a consultation to see if Perio Protect treatment is right for you.
Perio Protect is a gum disease treatment consisting of custom trays where you place prescription medicine, typically a hydrogen peroxide gel, and wear for a prescribed amount of time each day, typically 15 minutes at a time. The Perio Protect tray allows the medication to reach the infection below the gum line where it kills bacteria and freshens breath.
One of our qualified Perio Protect dentists will prescribe the number and duration of your treatments after determining the extent of your gum disease. He or she will evaluate your Perio Protect results and when the infection is under control, your dentist may place you on a maintenance schedule.
If you read Perio Protect reviews, you’ll see that patients are happy to have an alternative to surgery. Putting medicine in a tray and wearing it for a few minutes is much easier than surgery. Since the trays are custom made, they are comfortable and easy to wear. Many of our patients find the treatment easy to fit in their daily schedule. It’s possible to watch TV or do other things around the house while treating your gum disease. You only wear the trays for 10 or 15 minutes at a time.
Bad breath is a common problem for people with gum disease. Many Perio Protect reviews also mention beneficial side effects from the hydrogen peroxide, such as fresher breath and whiter teeth. If you have questions about how Perio Protect can benefit you, please call our office to set up a consultation. We would be happy to answer your questions.
Our Perio Protect dentists are trained, certified Perio Protect providers. Not all dentists offer the treatment because they haven’t had training in its use. We’re proud to offer it at our practice. If you need a dentist qualified to provide Perio Protect, contact our office to arrange a consultation.
We base your Perio Protect cost on several factors, including the medication prescribed and the cost of the custom trays. Your dentist will explain the Perio Protect cost after evaluating your specific needs. During your consultation, your dentist will go over the anticipated fees with you. The treatment is a good investment in your oral health and it is cost effective when you consider that it can eliminate the need for surgery in some cases.
Your coverage for Perio Protect will depend on your specific dental insurance plan; please contact your insurance provider or plan administrator to verify coverage of insurance code D5994. Our knowledgeable staff can also help you determine your coverage. If you do not have dental insurance coverage, please ask about alternative payment arrangements. We want to make Perio Protect possible for you.
If you have periodontal disease and you’re committed to following the schedule your dentist establishes for wearing the trays daily, you may be a good candidate for Perio Protect in Center City Philadelphia.
