Society associates white teeth with youth. Age and your lifestyle can stain your teeth, making you look older. Years of smoking and coffee drinking can make your teeth look yellow and dull. Brighter, whiter teeth will make you look younger and healthier, which will give your self-confidence a boost.

Why Should I Choose a Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment?

Visiting a dentist for teeth whitening ensures you have a safe experience and you achieve the results you expect. Our dentist can use a powerful peroxide-based bleaching agent that delivers optimal results. You’re monitored by dental professionals throughout the whitening session and our dentist will customize the whitening agent to ensure your teeth reach the desired shade. There is no way to get faster, more reliable results.

It’s important to note that a teeth whitening treatment works best on stains from age, tobacco and certain foods and beverages. A teeth whitening treatment will not affect the color of restorations or teeth with stains deep inside the tooth from decay, trauma or tetracycline. Our teeth bleaching dentist consults with patients before a treatment to help them set their expectations. Since one tooth with intrinsic staining will stand out when the rest of your teeth are white, our dentist may suggest you come back for a veneer to cover the tooth a week or two after your whitening session. Call today to schedule your consultation.

How Do Teeth Whitening at Home Kits Work?

Since some of our patients prefer to whiten their teeth at home, we offer at-home teeth whitening kits for their convenience. You will come in for an exam to make sure the staining on your teeth will respond to the bleaching agent. We’ll take an impression of your teeth and create a custom-made whitening tray that will keep the bleaching agent off your gums. You’ll also receive instructions and a powerful bleaching agent to use for about an hour each day for several weeks or as directed. Call our office to learn more if you are interested in a dentist-dispensed teeth whitening kit.

What Is the Average Teeth Bleaching Cost?

We base your teeth whitening cost on the system our dentist uses, the extent of the staining on your teeth, and whether you choose in-office or an at-home whitening kit. If you call for a consultation, our dentist can assess your unique needs and tell you your expected cost. We endeavor to keep our prices affordable.

Are DIY Teeth Whitening Products Effective?

If your teeth are only slightly stained, DIY can lighten your teeth a shade or two safely if you follow the directions. If your teeth have moderate to severe staining, don’t waste your money on toothpastes, strips and other products that promise whiter teeth. DIY whitening products have a diluted version of the bleaching agent a dentist uses so they can never work as well. If you have moderate to severe staining from tobacco, red wine or other foods and beverages that stain teeth, call our office for a consultation with our teeth bleaching dentist.

What Is the Cosmetic Teeth Whitening Procedure?

There are several systems our dentist may use based on your unique situation. No two patients are alike, so our dentist will decide which system is the most appropriate. Expect your session to last about an hour. Most teeth whitening systems have the following steps:

  1. You will have a dental exam to look for any issues that could cause you irritation during a teeth whitening treatment. If our dentist finds any decay or other issue, he or she will address them before your whitening treatment.
  2. You will need a dental teeth cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, which the bleaching agent cannot penetrate.
  3. You will have a cheek retractor put on to expose your teeth. This keeps your mouth open, which increases your comfort during the teeth whitening session.
  4. We will place a protective gel on your gums or we will use a rubber dental dam to protect your gums from the powerful bleaching agent.
  5. You’ll have the bleaching agent applied and left on for a set period of time, typically 15 to 20 minutes. This step will be repeated until the expected shade of whiteness is achieved.
  6. Some dental whitening systems use a special light to enhance the whitening process.
  7. You and your dentist will evaluate the results and decide if you will need an at-home follow up treatment.

Your results can last for several years if you avoid tobacco and limit your consumption of coffee, tea and other foods and beverages that may stain your teeth.
