We are open - safety is our top priority!
People lose their teeth for many reasons, including trauma and illness. Many of those searching for a solution to missing teeth, don’t like the option of wearing dentures. However, they may be unaware that they have another option. The All-on-4® treatment provides the convenience, ease, appearance, and function of natural teeth, but they don’t slip or fall out like traditional dentures. If you’d like more information on All-on-4 dentures in Blackwood, then call our office today.
What’s Meant by an All-on-4 Implant?
An All-on-4 dental implant is a permanently installed denture that’s prevented from slipping or falling out because it’s surgically attached to a titanium post in your jawbone. Titanium posts are used because they easily integrate with your jawbone and provide a stable base for the implant. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth and can be used for both the upper and lower jaw. They need no special care, only the good oral hygiene that you use for your natural teeth. However, if you’ve lost teeth due to poor oral hygiene, you might want to follow the guidelines set by the American Dental Association for proper oral hygiene. You don’t want to lose your implants because of insufficient oral hygiene. The American Dental Association recommends that you brush and floss twice daily, use an antibacterial mouthwash daily, and have an annual dental checkup and cleaning. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste that carry the American Dental Association seal of approval.
Why Are All-on-4 Implants So Effective?
The All-on-4 dental implant system works well because of the way it’s designed. Two posts are inserted into the front section of your jawbone and two posts are inserted into the rear of your jawbone. The rear posts are inserted at an angle, which usually precludes the necessity of a bone graft because inserting them at an angle makes them much stronger.
Since the posts are made of titanium, they integrate well with the bone in a process known as osseointegration. This usually takes about two months. When the incisions have fully healed, you’ll return to our Blackwood office to have your custom-fitted denture installed. It will be attached to the implants and will match your natural teeth in shape and shade.
We offer the teeth-in-a-day program, so call our Blackwood office to see if this is right for you or if you want more information.
What Happens with All-on-4 Before and After the Procedure?
Before you opt for the All-on-4 dentures, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums to make sure that you’re a good candidate. If you are, but you need additional dental procedures, we’ll do those before starting the procedure for All-on-4 dental implants.
Next, we’ll prep the site and insert the implants. You’ll be provided with aftercare instructions for your jaw and gums, and it’s essential that you follow the instructions precisely. Otherwise, you can develop an infection, which will add considerably to the overall treatment time. You’ll need to maintain a regimen of good oral hygiene after your implants are installed so that you don’t lose any additional teeth or jeopardize your implants. If you’re unsure about the specifics of good oral hygiene, you can read the American Dental Association recommendations or call our Blackwood office, and we’ll help you.
How Much Does the All-on-4 Procedure Cost?
Each patient will have an All-on-4 cost that is unique to them. Factors that will influence their All-on-4 dental implants cost include the number of teeth that are involved, any additional dental work that’s needed, the type of materials selected, and any available insurance coverage. Typically, dental insurance may cover a portion of your All-on-4 cost, but check with your plan provider to make sure.
Are There Differences Between All-on-4 and Traditional Implants?
Traditional dental implants can require as many as 10 implants per dental arch. All-on-4 dental implants, however, provide a full dental arch using only four implants. This makes the All-on-4 system much less invasive, and the overall healing time is shorter. This unique method for placing the implants also reduces the necessity of a bone graft, so it can be used in those who lack sufficient jawbone for traditional dental implants.
How Do All-on-4 Implants Differ from Traditional Dentures?
Traditional dentures rest on top of the gums and are secured, more or less, by messy adhesive. They have a reputation for slipping or falling out at inopportune moments. Since the All-on-4 dentures are permanently affixed to implants in your jawbone, they fit securely and will not slip or fall out. Unlike traditional dentures, they also help retain the structural integrity of the jawbone and face.
